The Cooley Parish Pastoral Council inspired by the challenge of Pope Francis to go out to the edges of the Church displayed a great sense of outreach for their liturgies during Holy Week recently. At the beginning of the season of Lent 4 pieces of wood were prepared and a piece was brought to every home in the Parish. The idea being that we would ask all parishioners to put a mark on the cross – that we would own the cross of Christ. The 4 pieces were then brought together to form a cross on Good Friday and was the centre piece for the Celebration of the Lords Passion on Good Friday at 3.00pm. Later that evening nearly 400 people arrived at Mullaghbuoy Church to begin the way of the cross which culminated in the cross being placed at the top of the Mountain. It was a moving experience for all involved and there has been a very positive reaction from people throughout the parish and beyond.
Since Good Friday people continue to visit the cross. The now annual Dawn Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 6.00am at Cill Mhuire Cemetery where breakfast was served and music and dance performed to the enjoyment of all gathered. Well done to all involved!
