Dear Eco-Congregation Ireland Friends
Earth Hour 2017 takes place on Saturday 25 March, 8.30pm to 9.30pm!
Sr Catherine Brennan the Catholic representative on the Eco-Congregation Ireland committee has prepared a special prayer for use during Earth Hour or at Mass/Service on Sunday 26 March. This prayer can be accessed on the Eco-Congregation Ireland website at this link – http://ecocongregationireland.com/archives/6083. There are also ideas of how your faith community can take part in Earth Hour. A copy is also attached.
Sr Catherine says: ‘Earth Hour is an opportunity for parishes and other faith groups to celebrate, pray and explore environmental concerns and how our faith calls us to address them. Did you know that your church’s Earth Hour activities can count towards your parish’s application for an ECI Award? As a global campaign, it neatly intersects with Eco-Congregation Ireland’s four award criteria – spiritual, practical, local community and global solidarity. Our current understanding of parish includes the whole bioregion with all that exists, lives and grows.’
If your faith community holds an event or service for Earth Hour or Lent or if you are planning something for Easter we would love to receive a short report with maybe a photo or two and we will include it in our upcoming newsletter. All contributions are very welcome! It is good to encourage each other on our environmental journey! Please forward all news to [email protected].
With kindest regards
